Behind the Scenes at Preakness

The 2018 Preakness Stakes was the 143rd running of this historic race and one for the books; Justify continued his pursuit of a Triple Crown and the Infield Fest turned into a Mud Fest.

But what goes into putting on this event with 130,000 spectators and 8 million TV viewers?  A LOT of power and climate control.

Infinite Power has been the provider of temporary power and climate solutions for Pimlico and the Preakness Stakes since Infinite Power was founded, so preparations for the event start before the winner of the Kentucky Derby has even been named.

This year Infinite Power provided over 10 MegaWatts of temporary electricity supplied by over 40 generators; running the Infield Stage, jumbo LED Screens, mobile kitchens, mutuels (the horse betting stations), and more, as well as providing backup power for the entire grandstands building.  In addition to all the power needed, Infinite Power provided over 60 large climate control units to keep the tens of thousands of square feet of tented areas at a comfortable temperature regardless of the weather onsite. To make these units run Infinite Power supplied and ran 19 miles of cable, 3,000ft of cable ramp, provided all fuel management for the event as well as necessary permitting, and had a crew onsite for over a month completing the job.

Not only was the event a great success, but went off as planned even with all the mud!
